Remembering January 2022

Collective memory without named profiles: events, testimony and sources preserved with dignity.

Remember and verify

This memorial preserves a shared memory of January 2022. The archive separates established facts from unknowns and links every published assertion to its source.

Dignity first

We do not build public dossiers about people or turn trauma into spectacle. Sensitive material requires a warning and an editorial justification.

We remember those who perished in January 2022

Event → claim → source

Each event is split into individual claims. The sources behind each claim are shown alongside it.

Material without a source and data that cannot be published are not included in the chronology.

Event
A record with a date and, when reviewed, a place.
Claim
A single statement inside an event that can be checked against sources.
Source
A link to a publication, document or archived copy with the provenance of the record.

Different accounts

When sources disagree, each account is shown separately with the material it relies on.

Source independence has not been assessed automatically.

Methodology

Supporting sources
Material that supports the wording.
Contradicting accounts
Material that presents a different account of events.

Unclassified sources
Material whose stance is not yet classified.

Questions about the memory section

Why are there no names here?
The section preserves a shared memory of events rather than personal stories: the portal does not publish public dossiers about people. This also applies to material in which people are mentioned.
Do the counters show the number of deaths?
No. The numbers next to the heading describe the current reviewable corpus – records, sources, documents and regions. They are not an estimate of the scale of events.
How can an established fact be told from a version?
Every published assertion is linked to sources, and each link carries a stance: supporting, contradicting, contextual or not yet classified. Unknowns are labelled as such.
